Pizza from Scratch
Serves: 3 pizzas
Pizza made from scratch with a homemade garden fresh tomato sauce.
Pizza Dough Ingredients:
  • 3 c water (warm/hot to the touch)
  • 2½ tsp. salt
  • ¼c + ⅛c olive oil
  • 8 c flour (white or wheat or a mix)
  • 2 T sugar
  • 2 T active dry yeast
Pizza Sauce Ingredients:
  • 4 c crushed tomatoes (preferably garden fresh)
  • 4 T tomato powder (or 1 small can tomato paste)
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning (or use fresh basil and oregano)
  • 1 T chopped dehydrated onion (or use 1 fresh onion, chopped and sauteed)
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
Pizza Topping Ideas:
  • Kale
  • Turkey
  • Chicken
  • Green Bell Peppers (chopped)
  • Tomatoes, diced
  • Green Onions, sliced
  • Mushrooms, sliced
  • Ham
  • Pineapple
  • Pepperoni
  • Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
  1. Place all sauce ingredients into a sauce pan. Turn on low and simmer, stirring periodically, for about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F.
  3. Combine all crust ingredients into a mixing bowl with a dough hook. Knead together for 3-4 minutes. Make sure that the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and that it is not too sticky. Cover dough with a moist cloth.
  4. Let dough rise for 20min-1 hr. (1 hr is best, but you can get away with 20 minutes).
  5. While dough is rising, gather and chop all pizza topping ingredients.
  6. Sprinkle cornmeal onto a baking stone. Roll out dough into the shape of a pizza crust on the stone. Top with pizza sauce and desired toppings.
  7. Bake 15-20 minutes or until the crust is a golden brown and the cheese browns a tiny bit.
I like a little kick to my pizza sauce. If you don't like it too spicy, add half of the crushed red pepper flakes and test taste it. My kids loved it, but it is up to personal preference. Also, some tomatoes are thicker than others. You may have to adjust the amount of tomato powder or cook time to get the sauce to the consistency you want. As far as toppings go, you can really add whatever toppings you would like. Be creative!
