Old fashioned apple crisp recipe with a delightful crumb topping. Delicious any time of the year! I adapted this recipe from my mother-in-law.
Ingredients
Filling:
  • 6 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • Sugar, as desired
Crumbly topping:
  • 1 c flour
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ¾ tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • ⅓ c shortening or butter
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
  1. In a greased 6"x10" baking dish, place the diced apples and sprinkle with desired amount of sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the egg and shortening.
  4. Cut in with a knife and fork or pasty cutter until mixture is crumbly. (Don't over mix!)
  5. Sprinkle crumbly mixture over top apples.
  6. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-40 minutes or until apples and crust are done.
  8. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired!
Notes
Another way to make this is to melt the shortening instead of cutting it in and drizzle it all over the top before baking.
